Using lubricant around birth
Lubricant can be helpful in several situations around the birth of young animals:
Examination of the birth canal
Apply a small amount of lubricant to a clean gloved finger to gently check whether the birth is progressing normally. This helps prevent irritation and tissue damage.
Assistance during difficult births
If a newborn has difficulty passing through the birth canal, lubricant may help ease delivery. Always use with care and only if you know what you are doing, or in consultation with a veterinarian.
Comfort for the mother
