About Milk for Animals

My name is Angela Kramer, and I help people who need to raise young animals by hand. Generally these are animal shelters and breeders, but also people where the cat has come in with a young hare.

Every animal has the right to good care. But what is good and what is not good is often not clear. And every animal shelter has its own recipe and methods, even if they catch the same animals. Everyone sticks to 'the way we've been doing it for years', and few ask the question why we do what we do. And if maybe we can do better.

Isn't it weird to give puppy milk to hedgehogs?
And why is Nutrilon Soya so often recommended for chinchillas and other rodents?

My view is that the powdered milk should be as similar as possible to the mother's milk. That's why I'm doing research. I read books and scientific articles about all kinds of milk and young animals. I am in direct contact with shelters and specialists from all over the world. What works? And what doesn't? I figure it all out. I've put all this information together in easy-to-understand manuals. And every time I learn something, I adapt the manuals.

And the products you need? I have them all in stock and can usually send them to you the same day. And in the meantime, there are simple home remedies that you can use to help your animal until the right milk arrives. This way you are assured of the best care for your animal.

Because it is quite an undertaking to take care of a young animal. The night feeding is hard to keep up, and during the day you have to be around for the next feed as well. With all that hard work, you want to make sure your effort isn't in vain. You want to really help the animal..

I know what it's like. When I was in elementary school, I had a hamster with babies. One was clearly smaller than the rest. So what do you do? There was no internet, and the vet couldn't really help me. Eventually I spent weeks feeding it day and night with soy milk. And Dwarf the hamster went everywhere with me, because every 2 hours he had to feed again. A lot of work, but what a satisfaction that it succeeded!

Later I came into contact with young rabbits and hares through the Rabbit Foundation. People of Stichting Eekhoornopvang and Dierenbescherming Utrecht had devised a method to raise these animals and had written a manual. And I helped with the sale of the milk and stuff. These manuals still form the basis of the website. But over the years the information has been expanded and more and more manuals for other animal species have been added. Some are written by myself, others are the work of other organizations that are just as concerned about young animals as I am.

My passion for young lives goes so far that I not only take care of young animals, but also foster children! I have taken care of  twelve children (and counting) who had no parents to take care of them. I helped them along their path a bit bigger and wiser. And it is ideal to be able to combine working from home with something as beautiful as foster care.

So if you call me, I might be in the middle of a playground. Or at the stables or in the schoolyard. Sometimes I may have to call you back later. But on the bright side, I'm not bound by office hours either. Because neither is your animal! I'll be there for you in the evenings and weekends, and you can expect an email back from me at all times.

See if your animal is listed in the manuals.
And if you have any questions, you know who to contact...
