Easy home test for Giardia.
1 test - the manual is only available in Dutch language
The test works pretty much like a corona home test, only you stick the cotton swab into your dog's or cat's poo. There is a clear manual with the Giardia home test that is easy to follow. Within 10 minutes you will know if there is Giardia in the poo.
Rapid test for the detection of Giardia in dog and cat faeces.
If an infection with Giardia is present, immediate treatment is important and you should also take immediate hygiene measures in your own household to combat the particularly persistent pathogens. With the NoWorm Diacur Giardia test, you get results very quickly in 10 minutes, so no time is lost in the follow-up.
Giardia is an insidious disease and cannot always be detected in your animal's poo. The excretion of Giardia trophozoites and cysts is irregular and can also stop temporarily. Therefore, multiple examinations over several days are recommended.
To save costs, you can collect multiple samples of poo. For 3 days, put a small amount of poo into the brown plastic jar provided. In the meantime, keep the brown jar in the fridge.
You can also mix poo from several animals to see if at least one is infected with Giardia. In case of Giardia infection, you will still have to treat all animals at the same time.
At the time of testing, mix the poo well, and let it come to room temperature. You then use this mixture for the test, giving you an even higher test reliability.
Giardia is one of the most common intestinal parasites in cats and dogs and is highly contagious to humans and animals. Giardia is the name of a single-celled parasite that can live in the small intestine of your dog or cat, or other (wild) animals. An animal becomes infected by eating the parasite, for example by drinking outdoor water or licking paws after being outside.
Once swallowed, the parasite multiplies in the intestines. By no means all animals get sick from this. Indeed, animals that appear healthy can still carry the disease and thus infect other animals. Some animals suffer from persistent and recurrent diarrhoea due to the intestinal parasite. Because the parasite can live for a long time in the environment of an infected animal, it is common for an animal to become re-infected. It is therefore advisable to wash your concurrent treatment and also disinfect the environment. (basket, cushion, blanket etc.)
In case of a positive test, always go to a vet.
By doing several tests at different times, or repeating the test at a vet, you increase the chance of a correct diagnosis.
